Rafi Fine Facts

  • He was born and grew up in Brooklyn, New York City.
  • His brother, being the older one, often pushed him to film “all kinds of weird stuff” after they got their 1st video camera as adolescents.
  • Rafi and his brother began making feature films in high school.
  • Rafi and Benny had a plan to break into the Hollywood by making a live-action feature film in 2000, and then a new one every year. Around 2003, they realized that the Internet would be the way to go, created their 1st website, then and uploaded their 1st web video in 2004.
  • They published their 1st YouTube video on June 4, 2007, which was titled Burger King Safety Dance.
  • Around 2009, they joined the Maker Studios after talking to Shane Dawson. This later became a foundation for MCNs e.g. Multi-Channel Networks. They launched their 2nd YouTube channel, FBE2, on May 14, 2009.
  • Their series Kids React won a 2012 Daytime Emmy for “Best Viral Video Series.”
  • Maisie Williams, who played Arya Stark in the Game of Thrones (2011-2019) had multiple cameo appearances on the Teens React series.
  • He and his brother faced harsh criticism when they filed trademark protection on the word “React” in July 2015 with the United States Patent & Trademark Office. That meant that any creators on YouTube that wanted to follow the same video format or use the word in their videos had to pay a licensing fee. On February 1, 2016, they rescinded all trademark appeals and released all Content ID claims.
  • Rafi wrote the screenplay and produced the movie F*&% the Prom (2017) starring Danielle Campbell, Joel Courtney, Madelaine Petsch, Cameron Palatas, Meg DeLacy, Jill Cimorelli, Luke Bilyk, Michael Chey, and Brendan Calton.
  • In July 2018, a businessman Marc Hustvedt took over the role of CEO of FBE to help the growth of the company. Mark has plenty of digital media experience and was the founder of Tubefilter and Streamy Awards.
  • He really likes to sing which annoys Benny sometimes.
