Forming from the ashes of Violent Circle Pit and prolific electronica sextet Myself? I Tore Up the Dragon's Flesh for Ease of Consumption, Cynothoglys began their "journey" by performing unrecognizable covers of Underworld songs. They were noticed by a delegate from Chthonic records whilst performing an extended rendition of "Spoon Deep", and were conversely signed under the name of Renegade Jungle Forces. At this stage, the band played in an extremely erratic manner, "flirting" with hardcore and superfluous guitar solos. Additionally, vocals were far more frequent in their work, with the majority of the lyrics being penned by guitarist Cyäegha, who was originally considered the "leader" of the band. This role was gradually "devolved" to Khüvaak (rhythm guitarist) and Carlisle (later Quachil Uttaus), who composed a significant portion of the band's output at this point, at least as far as arrangements are concerned. Improvised sections were typically directed by Zstylzhemghi, though Dagon (later given the prefix of "Father" by Carlisle; himself being one half of the rhythm section) was known for leading the band in less restrained directions.

The group gradually incorporated electronica stylings to a greater extent, effacing vocal parts and nearly all solos - the band now worked as an "incessant" ensemble. It was then that they adopted their present moniker, following the release of several unmarked demos.

Several line-up changes riddle the next few months of the band's career. Khüvaak departed, to be replaced by Yrykè, who followed suite two demos later. Original keyboardist Paul Horace was declared legally missing and was "substituted" by Nyarlathotep, who had previously been the sound engineer for earlier projects, as well as a participant in Intentions, a project helmed by Ryuji Yamamoto.

The band are currently recording their next album, which has yet to be named, though rumors are circulating that it may be an eponymous release.
