Leo Messi arrives in eSports: Argentine is the new KRU owner alongside Sergio Aguero
It is becoming more and more common to see sportsmen and women 'dipping their toes' into the world of eSports, especially footballers.
Iago Aspas, Azpilicueta, Casemiro and David de Gea are some of the players who own an eSports club, or at least are part owners of one.
Outside of Spain, the best-known team is KRU Esports, the Argentinian team owned by former Barcelona and Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero.
Aguero's team currently has a team in VALORANT's VCT Americas, one of the most relevant games in the PC shooter scene.
In 2023 they got rid of their League of Legends team, but there are rumors that they could be interested in competing again, this time in the Spanish Superliga.
Leo Messi, new part-owner of KRU Esports
Earlier on Tuesday evening, eSports lovers were surprised by the news that Lionel Messi, the best player in the history of football is coming to eSports. He will be the co-owner of KRU Esports together with his great friend, Aguero.
The Argentinean team released an official statement to confirm the news.
"Sergio Kun Aguero, CEO of KRU Esports and former professional football player, and Lionel Messi, the best footballer of all time, seal an alliance as partners of KRU, the eSports organization created in 2020 by Kun," the statement read.
Sergio Aguero's words after the agreement were forthcoming after the company statement.
"I am happy to share a club with Leo, of course now in a new stage and with other challenges. It is an honor that he is part of KRU. He is the best footballer in history, and also a great friend," Aguero declared.
"His presence is relevant because he projects values such as perseverance, humility and resilience. He is an inspirational figure and will be a great contribution to the scene in general."
