Geelong crash: Photo shows moment truck hits house

A family has escaped unharmed after an unoccupied semi-trailer rolled down a hill and crashed into the bedroom of a Geelong home at about 8.15am on Friday morning.

A couple in their 40s and a teenager were inside the home at the time of the crash, however, they were not injured.

The driver, a 61-year-old man, who was not inside the vehicle at the time of the incident, however he has spoken to police.

Authorities believe the semi-trailer was parked on North Valley Road in the Victorian suburb of Highton, before it rolled down the steep hill.

It also made impact with a Mitsubishi hatchback before crashing into the home’s front bedroom, resulting in sustained structural damage to the brick work of the one storey house.

Initial reports from Victoria’s Country Fire Authority suspect the empty trailer’s brakes may have failed.

While there were reports of a slight diesel leak at the scene, investigators weren’t concerned as the substance is not flammable.

A spokeswoman from Ambulance Victoria confirmed no injuries were recorded.

“Paramedics were called to an accident in Highton at about 8:10am. No emergency treatment or transport was required,” she said.

Footage from 9 News showed ambulance, police and fire and rescue crews attending the scene. They also reported “long skid marks” were seen on the road.

The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.

Police have requested anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
